Wigan has seen several football teams, In 1897 there was Wigan County however by 1900 they had collapsed. In 1905 Wigan Town was formed but they also collapsed three years later in 1908. It was not until Wigan Borough was formed in 1920 that Wigan once again had a football team. They managed to survive until 1931. In 1932 Wigan Athletic F.C. (Nickname "The Latics") was formed. Wigan's original kit colours were red and white however due to clothing shortages after the second world war they were forced to change to blue and white shirts. Some years these have been blue with white sleeves and others including 2007 have been blue and white stripes.
